Rotary Unit CNC Lathe by CNC Router Machining Setup, Basic Function and Operation

In this article, we'll explore the fundamental operations of a CNC Rotary Unit. From setting up your material to executing precise cuts, this guide will help you get started with your CNC projects. A CNC Rotary Unit is a device used in CNC machining to add rotational motion to a workpiece or cutting tool. It typically consists of a rotary axis (or axes) that can rotate a part around a fixed axis, allowing for complex machining tasks that require precise control over angles and rotations.

Setting Up the CNC Rotary Unit

Opening the Chuck Jaws: Use the Chuck key to open the Chuck Jaws on the front end of the rotary unit. This step is crucial for placing your material securely.

Securing the Material: At the back end of the rotary unit, you'll find the locking pin. This pin, along with the locking sliders, ensures that your material stays in place during the cutting process. Place one end of your material into the Chuck Jaws and tighten it. Next, move the locking pin into position and rotate the wheel until the material is tightly secured. Once it is, move the sliders into place and lock them.

Using the Remote Control

Now that your material is secure, it's time to use the remote control to set up your cutting parameters.

Centering the Starting Position:Y-Axis Adjustment: Press "Yus" or "Y+" to adjust the starting position along the Y-axis.X-Axis Adjustment: Use "Xus" or "X+" to turn the rotary and position your material. To achieve higher accuracy, switch to step mode to make fine adjustments in millimetres. Once you're satisfied with the position, set the X and Y coordinates by pressing the "xy0" button and then "OK."

Setting the Z-Axis: For the Z-axis, hold down the "Shift" key and press "xy0" again, then press "OK." Now, all the coordinates are set to zero, and you're ready to cut.

Uploading and Executing Your Design

After setting up the CNC Rotary Unit, it's time to upload and execute your design.

Saving and Uploading Your Design: Once you've finished your artwork in the software, save your design to a USB drive. Insert the USB into the router.

Loading the Design File: On the remote control, press "File," select your design file, and press "OK" to load it.

Starting the Cutting Process: Finally, press the green "Play" button to start the cutting process.

Example and Tips

Here's an example of a basic design cut out of wood using a CNC Rotary Unit. Depending on your project's goals, using the correct bits and collets is essential to achieving the desired outcome.
