Levelling Spoilboard by Skimming Spoilboard Surface by Flycutter Leveller with Router Bit 2+2 Inserts Cutter
If you’ve been following along, you’ve already seen us flatten a CNC Router Spoilboard Bed Surface using a small, inexpensive bit—something I like to call the training wheels of CNC tramming. But today, we’re stepping things up with a serious, heavy-duty tramming router bit.
This bit is built for speed and endurance. With four cutters, it removes material much faster than the smaller tools and is designed to last. The real advantage here is that each cutter can be rotated up to four times, giving you an impressive lifespan before you ever need to replace them. It’s efficient, powerful, and perfect for industrial use.
So, we loaded it up into the machine, hit start, and made some dust. After finishing the tramming process, I have to say—the CNC bed looks flawless, almost like glass. But before celebrating too much, I wanted to inspect the bit.
The first check was the tool itself, which looked great. Next, I felt for any heat on both the cutter and the collet. To my satisfaction, everything was at ambient temperature—practically ice cold. That’s a clear sign that the current set-up and feed rates were spot-on.
For this run, I used a slightly slower chip load of 0.125. Sure, this machine is capable of running much faster, but it’s always smarter to start slow and ensure stability before pushing it harder.
The best part? This isn’t some obscure tool you’ll struggle to find. You can pick up the exact same tramming router bit directly from AM.CO.ZA and Buythis.co.za. And if you’re curious about the specific feeds and speeds I used to get these results, make sure to follow us on Facebook, YouTube, and our other social channels. We’ve got those details available for download so you can replicate the process on your own machine.
